(St. John’s, NL; 02 February 2015) Petroleum Research NL is seeking proposals that address research themes related to Asset Integrity in Harsh Marine Environments. The objective of this RFP is to better understand the nature and extent of damage to offshore floating, fixed, and subsea infrastructure due to corrosion, wear, and fatigue; to investigate alternatives to existing materials and methods which can better withstand operations in harsh environments; and, to develop innovative technologies that will help improve production assurance, enable inspection without shutdown, and enhance asset life.
Proposals are encouraged in two key areas of interest: Materials Science that includes new materials and systems, including prevention of corrosion under insulation (CUI), coatings, composites, corrosion/fatigue issues, and application technologies for cold marine environments; and Monitoring and Inspection that includes non-disruptive/non-destructive testing and instrument development to improve the ability to detect CUI, general corrosion, and other sources of potential failure in facilities to enable timely maintenance and repair.
If you plan to submit a proposal then you must complete and submit a Letter of Intent (LOI) and Conditions of Submission of Information form no later than 1:00 pm (NST), 23 February 2015. “LOI” and “Conditions of Submission of Information” forms are available through the Petroleum Research website (www.petroleumresearch.ca).
Petroleum Research NL seeks research and technology development projects that are strategically and commercially relevant, and that create value for our members. Projects may range from early phase applied research to full scale technology adaptation or development. In all cases proponents should clearly address the potential application or commercial relevance of their project to the offshore petroleum industry, and the distinctiveness of their research or technology development project in an international context (i.e. the relevance of their project to other international work in the same area).
The total Petroleum Research financing request must not exceed $300,000 (including overheads) over a maximum three year period. Furthermore, the maximum per year funding request must not exceed $150,000. For projects that are larger, or longer than maximums, it is recommended that proponents implement a stage-gated structure in their project execution plan and submit early phase/preliminary research to this Call.
