The Canadian Centre for Fisheries Innovation (CCFI) is a non-profit organization owned by Memorial University and funded by the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador with additional support from the Maritime Provinces’ Governments.
CCFI has a mandate to apply fisheries related science and technology capability of universities and colleges in the Atlantic region to the problems and potential of the fishing industry with the goal of making the industry more productive and profitable.
CCFI does not undertake research and development on its own. Rather, it initiates, coordinates and manages R&D projects involving the fish harvesting, aquaculture and seafood industries on the one hand and science and technology units of Atlantic Canada institutions on the other. It also provides the fishing industry with funding assistance from public sources to undertake research and development projects.
